Emma Chambers, playing Hugh Grant's sister "Honey," turns in a charming performance in Notting Hill.
While watching her in that film last night, I was convinced I'd seen her in something else before -- but I can't figure out what it could have been. Still can't. She seems to have found fame in the Vicor of Dibley, but I've never watched that.
I think what was really going on was that she was reminding me powerfully of Claudie Blakely. I convinced myself I was watching Blakely in Notting Hill and they just didn't credit her for the role. Kidding. But seriously, these two look alike! Their eyes, noses, teeth, even a dimple. Dead-ringers -- though about 10 years apart in age.
Oh, and as a side note, if you haven't seen it lately, you haven't seen it at all -- give Notting Hill a pop into the dvd player. You won't regret it. Funny, charming and romantic, a wonderful way to spend an evening.
Thank you - I thought I was the only one who thought these were the same woman.
ReplyDeleteAcabo de ver a Claudie... y pensé que era la actriz de Notting Hill!
Deleteomg nearly 10 yrs later in my reply but I think the same. Didn't even know who Claudie Blakley was but knew and seen Emma Chambers. Just watching a drama on itv with Blakley in it and can't get over the similarities.
DeleteMe too
DeleteDitto. I've been watching Claudia Blakely in Lark Rise to Candleford and thinking it was Emma Chambers the whole time.
ReplyDeleteBig Texas Girl... I though Claudia Blakely was Emma Chambers..from the Vicor too. I watch in Lark Rise to Candleford. Love both shows.
DeleteIt's not only that they look alike but their dialect is very similar. I am sure if someone dug deep enough they would find a connection somewhere. I like them both.
DeleteThe thing is they even talk in the same way, really... if you listen to them for a moment, you hear the likeness... :-)
ReplyDeleteWow, I hadn't thought of that! I can "picture" their voices and I think you're right! So glad others have noticed this one too
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't Emma Chambers acting anymore?
ReplyDeleteI don't actually know. I'll see what I can find out though.
DeleteDid anyone ever find out what shes doing now? She is etched in the hearts of so many as Alice Tinker... id love to know what shes up to..
DeleteJan,
DeleteEmma Chamber passes Date of death: February 21, 2018. She dies of natural causes. That should answer your question?
I was just now watching Manhunt with Claudie Blakey and all the time I was completely sure that it was Honey (Emma Chambers) in Nottinghill. I had to go in the internet and found it wasn´t, but what a resemblance.
DeleteEmma Chambers died at 53 of a heart attack, sadly.
DeleteUnfortunately she passed away
DeleteVery sadly she died
DeleteI get them both mixed up, one of them plays in That Dubley thing, and one played in Martin Chuzzlewit, one played in "Touching Evil". They must be related they are so much alike.
ReplyDeleteI was just searching Emma Chambers because I looove her, and I came across your blog. Thank you so much for putting together all this information on British television. I fell deep in love with British comedy about 20 years ago and I have never looked back. British humor is so much smarter then most American writing. I have so many programs that I love and every time I really fall head over heels I find it's the same writer, Bob Larbey. Maybe you are familiar with him. Check him out. He is pretty mild, but consistently witty. Happy Blogging.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! What a great thing to notice about Bob Larbey. I am embarrassed to say that I almost never properly notice behind the scenes people, even great writers, and I definitely should. At least I'm penitent about it : ) Thanks so much for introducing me to his name!
DeleteWhat about Brad Pitt and Robert Redford ?
ReplyDeleteHey that's a good one! I never considered it but I think you're right. I'm going to search for some photos right now. Thanks
DeleteHaha! *I* thought they looked alike too!
ReplyDeleteI thought Emma and Claudie were the same person!
Even the way they shake their head when they talk is the same!
Well...I had to "Google" after watching Midsomer Murders to make sure I wasn't watching "Alice"...what an absolutely remarkable resemblance between these two actresses!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if there might be any remote way within their families that there was ever a "connection"!!
I kept telling my husband it was Emma whilst we were watching Midsomer Murders but he said she'd be much older. I also had to "Google" to find out! Remarkable likeness!
ReplyDeleteJust watched Midsomer Murders in which Claudie Blakely played a role. I remembered her from Pride and Prejudice. Looking up her filmography brought up a photo of Emma... I won't go on here as another has had the same experience and written it above! However, in the Season 17 MM about the Magician I noticed the actress who played the sister, Clare, in Truly Madly Deeply had a main role. Fun to find these actors carrying on.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently intrigued by the similarity of Emma Chambers' Alice Tinker character and that of "Darren" in S6 Ep 4 of Midsomer Murders, played by Leo Bill. Very similar vocals and body language.
ReplyDeleteYes! Oh my goodness. So random but so true, I had the same epiphany with Notting Hill and Blakley in Pride and Prejudice!
ReplyDeleteI was stunned to hear of Emma Chambers’ passing and mistakenly thought she was Claudie Blakely. While googling both women your blogged popped up, interesting.
ReplyDeleteExactly. I swear one of their parents must have had an outing ;)
ReplyDeleteAs with others here, I had to Google after watching
ReplyDeleteM&M tonight and seeing Emma Chambers double.
The likeness is incredible- surely
separated at birth!? 😉
I meant of course MM!
ReplyDeleteDitto to all the above. Incredible likeness. I read somewhere and heard sometime ago that there were only five (5) facial types....all the billions and billions of us but only five facial conformations! So these two ladies share a facial type but it does seem too that similar facial types also share body shapes and speech patterns. So, there you are! But I also think it's just possible that the further back you go into homo sapiens beginnings we came from the same ancestor anyway....! Worth considering..!
